Happy Abs Day: Shemar Moore

My previous Happy Abs Day post was dedicated to Bradley Cooper. Today for lack of inspriration I am going to dedicate Happy Abs Day to another actor again. I will try and come up with a more original theme in the near future but at the moment with a very busy social life and reading schedule you'll have to do with some of my favorite actors. Today feast your eyes on Mr. Shemar Moore.
Just as Bradley caught my eye in a TV series so did Mr. Shemar Moore and while searching for the name of the soap series he first wowed me in (I will share this info later on) I discovered that Mr Moore is half DUTCH!!! He has a Dutch mom and an African American dad. I always said off-spring of white and black turn out to be some of the best specimens of mancandy on this planet ;) The first language he learned was Dutch as he didn't learn English until he was 5!!!! Are you as surprised as I am??

Okay, back to the subject at hand now...the soap series I was looking for was THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. This soap was aired for a very, very brief moment in time on Dutch television some years ago and this is where I first saw Shemar. Then TV crime shows addict that I am I started watching CRIMINAL MINDS and hey.....there was Mr Shemar "Hottie" Moore again! I'm not saying I watch CM for him but if he were to leave the series I am sure I will enjoy it a lot less than I do with him in it.

Enough of the Pearl blabbering...I know you guys want some pics...after all this is Happy Abs Day.

I'm starting off with some non-abs ones, just because I feel like it and I am a woman who notices other stuff than abs first *wink*

Look at that smile, look at those pecs, look at those arms!! And tell me you don't want to haul him off somewhere, fog up those glasses and have your merry (dirty) way with him. I dare you!

And now what you all have been waiting for: ABS!! Shemar Moore's delicious, delectable, bite- and lickable ABS!

And now my favorite of the bunch...I could stare dreamily at this one for hours and hours and hours...and hours and hours...

Happy Abs Day and Happy Drooling!

Requested Review: Laura Griffin - Unspeakable

Mass Market Paperback; 384 pages
Publisher: Pocket Books - June 29, 2010
ISBN-10: 1439152950
ISBN-13: 978-1439152950
Genre: Romantic Suspense
Book: Book Two in Tracers Series
Main Characters: Elaina McCord & Troy Stockton
On sale at: The Bookdepository Store

Summary:

ELAINA MCCORD WANTS TO FIND A KILLER.
BUT HE’S ALREADY FOUND HER.

Elaina McCord’s dream of being an FBI profiler is in danger with her first case—investigating a string of murders near a Texas beach resort. The victims, all young women, were drugged and brutally murdered, their bodies abandoned in desolate marshland. Elaina’s hunch—met with disbelief by local police—is that these are only the latest offerings from a serial killer who has been perfecting his art for years, growing bolder and more cunning with each strike.

True-crime writer Troy Stockton has a reputation as an irresistible playboy who gets his story at any cost. He’s the last person Elaina should trust, let alone be attracted to. But right now Troy, along with the elite team of forensics experts known as the Tracers, are her only allies in a case that’s turning dangerously personal. A killer is reaching out to Elaina, taunting her, letting her know how ruthless he is and how close he’s getting. Now it’s not just her career that’s in danger—it’s her life. . . .

Pearl's Review: Elaina McCord wants to follow in her legendary profiler father’s footsteps and be a profiler too. Elaina is ambitious and responsible. She’s a no-nonsense type of woman with a hidden softer side. Fresh out of the Academy, she’s sent to a small Texas FBI office instead of one of the hotshot big town offices. A homicide investigation on Lito Island is her first shot at proving herself. Elaina has ideas about the homicide and suspects a serial killer but her male colleagues and the local police don’t care much for her opinion.

One of the few who believes her and is willing to help her prove her suspicions is former newspaper reporter turned crime writer, Troy Stockton. Troy is a smooth charmer and despite his surfer-dude look and his seemingly laidback attitude he’s as sharp as the come. When they start working together the sparks fly between them but both know that they have to focus on the case rather than the sizzling chemistry between them, especially when the killer starts focusing on Elaina.

Just as with all the previous Laura Griffin Books I was entranced from the moment I cracked the spine and started reading the prologue. UNSPEAKABLE is a romantic suspense novel that turned out to be right up my alley as it focuses on FBI and suspect profiling, which is one of my preferred suspense/law enforcement tropes. Reading it felt like watching a mix of my favorite TV crime shows (Criminal Minds and CSI) all rolled into one, topped off with a subtle yet sensual romance. Laura Griffin had me speculating and guessing who the killer was and it wasn’t until about 2/3 into the book that I pegged the killer after two false guesses. With subtle hints and clues she leads you in a certain direction and then steers you in the right one at the end. I love how she does this.

As with the first book in this Tracer series, the Delphi Center (elite forensic lab) and some of the Tracers played a significant role in the solving of the plot and finding the killer. There’s a cold case subplot with Mia Voss, the DNA expert, and police officer Ric Santos that not only gets nicely tied in with the main plot but is also a prelude to the next book, at least I think the romance part of that sub plot is. However, Laura Griffin has been known to lead me in a certain direction when pairing characters and then surprise the heck out of me with the end product, so I am not putting all my money on the Mia and Ric match.

When reviewing Laura Griffin’s books I am afraid I sound like a broken record. Again I loved the clean and crisp writing and the subtle way the romance was set-up, imbedded in the story and woven through the suspense plot. Again I was mesmerized by the suspense that made me go through the book like a warm knife goes through butter. UNSPEAKABLE is a quick-paced read as I couldn’t stop reading and had to know the outcome of the plot and I was kept entranced by the search for a (serial) killer who crept me out. And again I have nothing but praise for Griffin’s knowledge of law enforcement, her excellent writing skills and the amazing way she combines the two to deliver a story that wasn’t as heart-pounding as some of her other books I’ve read but this absolutely didn’t diminish the wonderful reading experience I had with UNSPEAKABLE.

For me Laura Griffin never fails to deliver and I hope this Tracer series won’t end with book 3: UNFORGIVABLE as there were enough secondary characters in UNSPEAKABLE to warrant at least a few more books in the future. Among them are Troy’s friend Cinco Chavez, Tracer Ben Lawson (cyber crime expert) and Tracer Kelsey Quinn (forensic anthropologist). With these three I think there’s enough material there to continue the Tracer series for a while, if not with their own books, maybe with secondary storylines. I’d especially like to reacquaint myself with Cinco in the future.

UNSPEAKABLE is another awesome Laura Griffin book. It was fast-paced with excellent suspense and just enough romance to take it out of crime fiction/thriller and into romantic suspense territory. When the Dutch networks fail in offering me new episodes of my favorite TV crime shows I know whose books I can turn to instead.

Summary

Book 1: Ghost Shadow

There are those who walk among us who are no longer alive, but not yet crossed over. They seek retribution…vengeance…to warn. Among the living, few intuit their presence.

Katie MacDonald is one who can.

As she’s drawn deeper and deeper into a gruesome years-old murder, whispered warnings from a spectral friend become more and more insistent. But Katie must uncover the truth: could David Beckett really be guilty of his fiancée’s murder?

Worse – the body count’s rising on the Island of Bones, and the dead seem to be reenacting some macabre tableaux from history. The danger is increasing by the moment – especially as Katie finds herself irresistibly drawn to David, who may be responsible for more than just one killing….

Book 2: Ghost Night

A slasher movie turns real when two young actors are brutally murdered on a remote island film set. Their severed heads and arms are posed in macabre homage to a nineteenth-century pirate massacre.

Two years later, Vanessa Loren is drawn back to South Bimini by a documentary being made about the storied region. Filmmaker Sean O’Hara aches to see how the unsolved crime haunts her…and Sean knows more than a little about ghosts.

Lured by visions of a spectral figurehead, Vanessa discovers authentic pirate treasures that only deepen the mystery. Are the murders the work of modern-day marauders, the Bermuda Triangle or a deadly paranormal echo of the island’s violent history? As Vanessa and Sean grow closer, the killer prepares to resume the slaughter…unless the dead can intervene.

Book 3: Ghost Moon

Reclusive collector Cutter Merlin is seldom seen in Key West—lately, not at all. Officer Liam Beckett visits Merlin’s curious house and discovers the gentleman in his study. In his death grip: a volume of occult lore and a reliquary. His eyes are wide with fright, his mouth a horrified rictus where spiders now dwell.

Kelsey Donovan returns to the old house to catalog her estranged grandfather’s collection of artifacts and antiquities, vowing to see his treasures divested properly. But she cannot ignore the sense that she’s being watched, the reports of malevolent black figures, the pervasive smell of death.

Is the Merlin house haunted, even cursed? Liam knows well that some ghost stories are true and he swears to protect Kelsey. But there are forces at work for whom one more life is a pittance to pay for their deepest desire.…

Life and Death, baby! Erin Kellison’s Shadow series

First a big thanks to ROOB for inviting me to blog. I’m so happy to be here, and am giving away a set of my books, Shadow Bound and Shadow Fall, to a lucky commenter.
First a question: When a person gives their life for something, it’s often considered the ultimate selfless act. So what happens if someone gives up their… death?

I can remember exactly when I was piecing out the ideas for the first book in my Shadow series, Shadow Bound. I was sitting on my bedroom floor, in pajamas, brainstorming. I had sticky notes. And I think I was talking to myself out loud. A mythology book was open and I recall passing an entry for “banshee”. Something clicked in my head and so I stopped there. The boundary between life and death has always interested me, and so using a banshee as my heroine had all sorts of possibilities.

But I still couldn’t get a handle on her. I needed to know more. I had to know how she came to be, how she was conceived. As a world-building exercise, I wrote what is now the prologue of Shadow Bound. You can read it here

In it, a mortal woman seduces a fae lord of Twilight, the land between the mortal world and the Hereafter. She names him Shadowman, but to other people he’s called the Grim Reaper, aka Death. His duty is to courier souls across his faery realm upon their deaths. Twilight is the place of magic, of nightmare and dreams.

Then I understood that my banshee, Talia O’Brien, has one foot in each world, and therefore has a unique perspective on both sides of the veil. Except Talia doesn’t know what she is; all she knows is that when she screams, the Grim Reaper comes. Shadow is her refuge; she can hide herself in it and blind others with darkness.

When Shadowman trespassed into the mortal world, he inadvertently let a demon, the Death Collector, cross as well. In the mortal realm, The Death Collector offers immortality to anybody who wants it. All a person has to do is give up their death (and their soul) to get it, becoming a wraith.

Enter Adam Thorne, Shadow Bound’s hero. His brother Jacob made this hideous trade. Jacob has become a monster and now has to feed on other human beings to retain any semblance of humanity. At first Adam wanted to save Jacob, but long years of work and misery have made him just want to kill him. But Adam can’t. Jacob is immortal. Adam needs somebody who can call Shadowman to cut Jacob out of the world—he needs Talia. He gets a lot more than he expected. A sleeping beauty and a badass rolled into one. And watch out when she screams. You can read more about Adam and Jacob in a special prequel excerpt here

I sold Shadow Bound out of a contest. When I spoke to my future editor, she told me about a new program for debut authors that the publisher was initiating—Dorchester’s Publisher’s Pledge. I was very honored that Shadow Bound was selected for this program. First, the program includes a letter from my editor in the front matter of my published book. It also includes a money-back guarantee to readers, encouraging them to try a new author. I was thrilled to be included, and utterly blown away when she also made the second book in the series, Shadow Fall, a Publisher’s Pledge title too.

The second book in the series, Shadow Fall, centers on Custo Santovari, a character who was introduced in Shadow Bound. Well, tortured is more like it. And he’s tortured some more in his own story as he tries to save Annabella, a ballerina who has lured a wolf out of Twilight. Annabella is about to make her debut as the principal dancer in Giselle. But as in a dream, the story of her ballet transcends to fairy tale and is enacted both on the stage and in fae Twilight. She is seduced by the magic, and yet must master it.

Here are the back cover blurbs for both books:

Shadow Bound

Death

Some people will do anything to avoid it. Even trade their immortal souls for endless existence.

Wraiths

Secretly, inexorably, they are infiltrating our world, sucking the essence out of unsuspecting victims with their hideous parody of a kiss.

Segue

Adam Thorne founded the Segue Institute to study and destroy his monster of a brother, but the key to its success is held in the pale, slender hand of a woman on the run. There is something hauntingly different about Talia O’Brien, her unknowing sensuality, her uncanny way of slipping into Shadow.

Twilight

This is the place between life and what comes after—a dark forest of fantasy, filled with beauty, peril, mystery. And Talia is about to open the door.

Shadow Fall

Sacrifice

Custo Santovari accepted pain, blood, even death, to save his best friend. But a man with all his sins just isn't cut out to be an angel.

Mystery

One moment he's fleeing Heaven; the next, he's waking up stark naked in Manhattan. In the middle of a war. Called there by a woman who's desperately afraid of the dark.

Shadow

It gathers around Annabella as she performs, filled with fantastic images of another world, bringing both a golden hero and a nightmare lover.

Wolf

He pursues her relentlessly, twisting her desires even as she gives herself to the man she loves. Because each of us has a wild side, and Annabella is about to unleash the beast.

Main Characters: Jude Bertrand & Marissa York
For Sale At: Book Depository Store

Summary:

He Is Not What She Had In Mind.

Jude Bertrand is not an excellent dancer. Nor does he wear the most fashionable coats. But when Marissa York's brother approaches him, desperate to preserve Marissa's tenuous reputation, Jude does prove heroic enough to offer to marry the girl. In fact, the union should more than make up for his lack of social graces-and his own scandalous past...

But Minds Change...

Marissa knows that betrothal to the son of a duke-even one as raw and masculine as Jude-will save her from ruin, but that doesn't mean she's happy about it. Soon, though, she finds that Jude has a surprisingly gentle touch-and plans to use it to persuade Marissa that their wedding day cannot come soon enough...

Marissa's review: Although I have several books of Victoria Dahl on my shelf A Little Bit Wild is my first acquaintance with Dahl’s work but it won’t be my last. I had no problem in finishing this story in one sitting, Dahl’s typical style of wit had me flipping the pages and I could not stop. A Little Bit Wild is not your average historical romance novel; it is as the title says a little bit wild and unconventional. Jude and Marissa, the main characters, break every rule the stiff Victorian society has laid on them.

This story takes place in England in 1847 and Dahl literally drops us in the middle of a scandal. Marissa York comes from a respectable, noble family but scandal always seems to find her family. She gets caught red-handed by her brother while making love, her reputation is ruined. There is only one solution to fix her reputation and avoid scandal, Marissa must marry and fast. Only Marissa has no intention of getting married and especially not to the guy who took her virginity. But her brother is relentless, so when Jude Bertrand, a friend of the family and house guest, offers to marry her she has no choice but to agree for the time being. Jude is raw, muscular and anything but graceful, he is everything she is not looking for in a man but she soon finds out that Jude has a very pleasant touch…

Jude Bertrand, born out of wedlock, is the acknowledged son of a duke; he has always liked Marissa York, even though she never really noticed him. He has often seen her eyes linger on elegant young men he still considers to be boys not men. He is also the only one who noticed that Marissa is full of passion and she desperately tries to contain it. She is different than the other ladies and her streak of wildness turns him on, he plans to use it to his advantage and show Marissa that she really doesn’t want to spend the rest of her life with a graceful young lad but that she needs a real man like him who knows exactly what she needs…

This story is even-paced and character-driven. It is a journey of soul searching, a heroine who claims to be a proper lady but is really a bit wicked and an illegitimate son who wants to be truly accepted for the man he really is and not just as the acknowledged son of a duke. Marissa is headstrong, feisty and outspoken but also a bit spoiled, shallow and naïf. She likes to flirt and seduce men to kiss her; she does not realize that she is restless and bored with her life as it is. Jude is honorable, loyal and strong. He is coarse-featured, broad shouldered with a wide face that looks hewn from stone. He has masculine features and an unrelenting height; he looks more like a blacksmith than a gentleman. He likes to provoke Marissa into very unladylike conversations.

I love the way their relationship unfolds, their witty, bold and naughty conversations vibrate from the pages. They really are perfectly fitted for one another. Their emotions and passion spice up the story even further. There are not many secondary characters in this story, but the ones that caught my eye were Marissa’s brothers. Also a bit unconventional, they are known for their bad temper, their bickering and the way Dahl describes the occurrings in the York's family home reminded me by fits and starts of a slapstick, really hilarious. But the brothers mean well and will do anything to protect their little sister and family name. Edward, who is the head of the family obviously runs his family with a not so firm hand and Aidan is the tortured one, now he is the one I would love to see in his own story.

The plot thickens a bit when the family gets blackmailed and Marissa’s escapades are about to become public knowledge. Although you can see the blackmail coming from a mile away the blackmailer comes from an unexpected corner. There were also a few things that irked me about this story, although Marissa is a very adventurous and untamable lady, she really gets a lot of freedom. In those days ladies were not left alone with a man without a chaperone, but Marissa has done so several times, she pretty much goes her own way, Jude even spent time in her room. For such a smart lady she does not really seem to care for her reputation. At some point she even drinks brandy, but a lady was not allowed to drink hard liquor in those days. These things were “not done” at that time and a respectable family like Marissa’s would not have allowed that. Also modesty and propriety demanded in those days that a pregnant woman of the gentry who is already showing remained confined, she certainly would not have openly received three men no matter how urgent the matter was. So even though Jude, Marissa and the York family are a bit unconventional for those days these things irked me a bit.

But I did enjoy A Little Bit Wild very much, it is a refreshing story. The dialogues sparkle with wit and both Marissa as Jude are penned down so vividly that they jump of the pages. A Little Bit Wild is refreshingly different and wickedly witty read.

Happy Abs Day: Let's get naughty

Hi everyone,
Today we can all sigh a breath of relief and say; TGIF!! Now my hubby is actually *looking at clock* Five and a half hours away from coming through the door with a smile from ear to ear saying; Hon, it's vacation time!! Three weeks prior to his vacation the stress increases with each day, all sorts of small and big job orders get shoved in his employee mailbox with the message; Need to be done before you go on vacation. Like my hubby is going away for three months instead of three weeks *sigh* Anyway, I'm looking forward to the vacay, though it is a stay-at-home one.

As I'm getting in the mood for vacation time I thought to just get naughty...perhaps a classic one...but still naughty. I've invited three men over for today who are willing to let their ab defined chest serve as platter for us to lick and nibble on. Intrigued yet? Let's get out the yummy stuff....

and I was talking about the items to put on the abs LOL

The chocolate sauce...

The honey...

and the whipped cream with strawberries...

Now here are the guys....

I've got the workerbee...

The swimsuit edition...

and one who just got his workout at the gym...

Take them to which ever corner and have your way with them! Happy Abs Day (((hugs)))

Summary:
EXTREME HEAT. EXTREME HUNGER.
A JUNGLE EDEN ABLAZE WITH TEMPTATION.

Deep in the Brazilian rain forest, a team of Navy SEALs has been nearly wiped out by something sinister and superhuman, sending shock waves through the Agency for Covert Rare Operatives (ACRO). Now ACRO agents Sela Kahne and Marlena West head to the world's most unforgiving jungle to find and kill a mythical monstrosity with a taste for human blood. But to succeed in their mission, they will need the help of two men, each hiding his own dark secret.

Sela is an expert on cryptozoology with a sideline skill that could prove invaluable: When she makes love to a man, she engulfs his innermost thoughts. Teamed with Marlena, Sela makes contact with the lone SEAL survivor, Chance McCormack. Meanwhile, Logan Mills, the man who rescued Chance, leads his private company on a hunt that has nothing to do with saving lives. Soon, Sela will put her supernatural charms to work on Logan, determined to extract information about the creature they are seeking. But in this sweat-drenched realm of danger and deception, Logan is more than just a passive target. He has the power to lead a highly trained seducer into a jungle without any rules, without any limits - and with no end to the heat.
