Donna Grant gives the 411 on her MacLeod men

As this week celebrates the fourth year anniversary of Realms On Our Bookshelves we thought it fun to invite some authors over to come celebrate. Marissa absolutely fell for the new highlander series of the following author and wanted everyone to meet these hunk-a-liscious men. Who better to give them an introduction then their muse? So we give the stage to Donna Grant...

website author - purchase Dark Sword novels- Twitter - Facebook

Thank you to the wonderful ladies at Realms for inviting me to blog about my Highlanders. I’m always willing to talk about my hunky Warriors.

For those unfamiliar with my Dark Sword series let me tell you a bit about it.

The Warriors are a group of Highlanders who are the greatest warriors of their clan/family. By being so, they carry within their blood primeval gods that once unbound, not only make them immortal but give the Highlanders enhanced abilities and special powers. They also transform by way of claws and fangs, but also each god has a color, so the Highlanders turn the color of their god.

The series begins with the three MacLeod brothers. Why the MacLeods? Because when I developed the legend for the series, I made it so that one clan was listed for the villainess to find – MacLeod.

There are so many legends and myths of Scotland that it’s hard to know what was real and what wasn’t. So, when I began the series, I developed a legend of my own: What if Rome was driven out of Britain by magic?

And by magic I mean Druids. Two sects actually (good and bad). It’s the evil Druids who call up the primeval gods from Hell, but it takes both sects to bind the gods inside the men. Until my villain, centuries later, sets the gods free once more in her bid to take over the world.

The villain, Deirdre, is twisted by the black magic running through her. She destroys not only the MacLeod family in her bid to find the brothers, but the entire clan. Nothing is left. The MacLeod brothers manage to escape Deirdre once their gods are unbound, but afterward they sit in their ruining castle for three hundred years and try to survive who and what they are.

It’s the middle brother, Lucan (DANGEROUS HIGHLANDER – Jan 2010), who holds the brothers together. He’s the rational one. The one who will sacrifice his own wants and needs in support of his brothers. Until Cara. He’s also the one who has learned to control his god– and learned to use his power.

The eldest, Fallon (FORBIDDEN HIGHLANDER – May 2010) turns to wine to dull his god as well as to forget that he wasn’t able to protect his clan when he was needed most. He’s the thinker, the one who wants to over think things. Drowned in wine as he has been, Fallon doesn’t know the first thing about his god or any power he might have. He’s put to the ultimate test when he has no choice but to let loose his god.

Quinn (WICKED HIGHLANDER – Nov 2010) is the youngest and the one struggling to not allow his god control. He’s the reckless one, the one who reacts without thinking first. Since he cannot control his god, there is a part of his god that shows constantly, and the longer that goes on, the closer he is to losing himself to his god forever.

I love the MacLeod brothers. They share a god, and because they do, when they fight together, they are nearly unstoppable. In everything they are stronger together, but each is a force to be reckoned with on his own.

Yet, there are other Warriors. You meet Galen, Broc, Hayden (one of my favorites!), Ramsey, Camdyn, and Logan in Fallon’s book. As with the brothers, each Warrior has his own history and power. And their own beef with Deirdre.

In Quinn’s book, you meet the final set of Warriors - Ian, Duncan, Arran, Charon (another of my favs!), and Phelan.

It’s been a lot of fun taking each Warrior’s power and using it for or against him. To add to the conflict, their heroines are Druids who each hold a special type of magic. With the Warriors being such strong, rugged men their heroines have to be just as stalwart to be able to stand beside them.

Besides the internal conflict my Warriors and their heroines have to endure, there is the overall series arc of Deirdre and her quest to have all men bow before her. There is nothing she won’t do, no one she won’t sacrifice to achieve her goals. After nearly a millennia of being alive, her magic is a terrifying force.

D

Oyh how come I have not one of these on my shelves!!!! I'm just after having a frantic search thinking I had book one to devour but DANG to say it must have crossed wires on my to buy list, so henceforth here goes my finger to my to buy now button and first one is on its way.

When Marissa was talking about this a while ago I already had butterflies flying about everywhere so I am anxiously awaiting the book to drop on my doormat! ( I am excluded from winning as one of to co-owners *sigh* )

But the more chance for you other girls to win a chance to dive into this series!!!!

Donna, great post! I absolutely love the idea of the highland warriors not being immortal but having special powers throughout their lives! Can't wait for them to enter my life!
